Gurj's Story

Back in 2017, volunteer G was looking to get back into regular employment. G found he was lacking recent tailored work experience that would enable him to find work in his chosen field. He was looking to move into environmental design, having studied it previously and having since left a retail career path. G was also looking to increase his confidence in a new working environment, whilst reaffirming his expertise in fulfilling design projects.

When working alongside The People’s Orchestra, G has been able to work in a wider variety of situations, including design and digital materials for promotional materials for the orchestra’s performances, confidence growing in his ability through each new project. His work went on to be promoted both online and throughout the local community in flyers and banners. These have generated vast conversation and audiences for orchestral and other community events.

With this newfound experience, G has gained full time employment within an illustration design department in the NHS, with the opportunity to progress further over time.

Reflecting on his experience, G encourages others to join in; “I wish I had done it sooner” he explains, “I was interested in putting into practice my creative design skill set again and The People’s Orchestra was a great friendly environment for it There are a myriad of areas you could get involved in to help gain experience in the sector you wish to be it”.
